[Deadline October 18, 2013] PhD Position at Valeo (Cergy St Christophe, France) and ETIS (Cergy, France)

Reliability against transient faults of an embedded calculator based on SRAM-FPGA to efficiently control the motor of electrical car.

Abstract

The main contribution of this thesis is to propose a novel methodology for improving the reliability of SRAM-based FPGA embedded in the electric vehicle engine control system. First, it is necessary to study the sensitivity of theses circuits (SRAM-based FPGAs) when are subject to electromagnetic and/or heat pollution in the presence of an electric motor. Transient faults (SEU and/or SET) mainly due to these factors and other phenomena such as interference on the power supply, internal interference of electrical signals, the aging of the circuit, terrestrial and cosmic radiation, etc... will be studied. The impact of these faults on the operation of FPGA will be evaluated.
The results of this first study (MTBF, failure frequency, distribution law, propagation level ...) will permit to develop empirically a fault model reference. This model will , on the one hand, predict a high-level behavior of the device and on the other, develop tools for detection/correction to make the system fault tolerant.
